The mare tried not to blush, since not only was such a thing uncharacteristic, but the blue of her fur and the red of a blush would come out an odd mix of purple, she did think. She tossed her head to the side to minimize the appearance.
At the mention of the other mares already present in the song, she stiffened a bit. "You'yre suyre they won't mind me ayround? I know Dew says I can be... abyrasive at times. Howeveyr, I'm suyre I can at least assist you in defending the ayrea." Whisper nodded firmly then, a small sense of pride washing over her. She was good enough.
She wanted to tell him how thankful she was, but was afraid that the words would come spilling out like a broken dam, and didn't want to appear flustered or out of control. Slowly, she spoke again. "I would be honoyred to join youyr song, yRiveyr."

River's expression was overjoyed as he grinned with equine delight. "That...is wondeyrful! It's moyre than I eveyr could have hoped foyr, someone as lovely as you. I can't wait to show you ouyr home. We'll have to head out afteyr we tell youyr fyriend wheyre you'll be headed."
He laughed and nosed at the juncture of her neck and jaw in a playful manner, obviously at ease with physical contact once he'd gotten to know someone. He was just one of those people. "Glint will want to get to know you yright away, but don't mind heyr. She's a lot like me sometimes, whetheyr that's a good thing or not. It'll take you longeyr with Sigh, but heyr fyriendship is woyrth the wait. She's a veyry devoted and affectionate songmate."
Happy and eager all in one go, he lifted and put down his feet a few times before his blue eyes turned back to her. "I know you weyre taking a walk eayrlieyr, but do you have anything else that you need to do ayround here befoyre we go?"

Whisper smiled at the contact, glad that it was wholly unlike Dew's pouncing. The lack of rough play was a nice change for her, at least, for now. She was sure she'd open up eventually. Being around other Sams, especially Sigh, would help. Sigh sounded wonderful, shy, timid, but devoted. Whisper looked off into the distance for a moment, thinking.
"I'm suyre Dew wouldn't mind if I came to him lateyr to tell him I've joined a song. I can go with you now, if you want, and I can leave for a day tyrip and tell him then. He's a nice Sam. I've neveyr seen him angeyry." He shouldn't mind, she thought. She doubted he'd noticed her disappearance anyway.
She trotted alongside her new stallion, smiling slightly, the gesture going to her eyes as well. "When do you plan to leave, yRiveyr?"

Happiness not faded in the slightest, River smiled back at his newest and most vividly colored mare. "We could leave yright now, if you wished to see youyr new home as soon as possible. I must admit, I like to show it off."
He laughed a little and continued along with her, changing direction only minutely. They'd been headed in the direction of home anyway, his feet moving ahead of his brain, but now it seemed a fortunate circumstance. "It will be a few days' walk theyre, but plenty of beyrries and plants ayre on the yroute foyr us to eat. We'll avoid the songs along the way and be theyre befoyre the otheyrs know what hit them. They ceyrtainly weyren't expecting me back so soon."

"I think the jouyrney will be well woyrth it. Sounds like...fun." The word seemed foreign to her, but Whisper knew there would be much more of it now that she had somewhere to be, somewhere to belong. Keeping pace with River, she kept her eyes ahead. The next few days, she thought, would be the beginning of a new chapter in her life.
